National Vocational Qualification – NVQ

As a Greenbanks care assistant, you can gain your Level 2 NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) in Health and Social Care. It’s a training programme that’s equivalent to 5 GCSEs and it’s a nationally recognised qualification you can take to any job.

You don’t have to put aside a huge amount of personal time to get an NVQ. Our trainers will observe you as you carry out your normal work; you then write up what you’ve been doing, answering questions about the tasks you undertake.

You build up a file (portfolio) setting out the work you’ve done for checking by an assessor. The evidence you gather for your portfolio will be:

Valid –matching NVQ standards

Current – your portfolio will contain notes about work you’ve done in the past 3 years

Authentic – the contents of your portfolio must be your own work

Specific – the work you record must meet the performance criteria laid down for the NVQ

Your Greenbanks assessor will guide you through your NVQ, meeting you regularly to agree with you the NVQ units that best match the type of home care or live-in care you provide.

Our assessor will make sure that all the work you do for your NVQ is relevant to gaining the qualification. And you’ll have an assessment plan to help you keep track of how you’re getting on.
